Circular hike with breathtaking views of the UNESCO World Heritage Tectonic Arena Sardona. The highlight: the panoramic view and the photo spot of the Grand Tour of Switzerland.

The chairlift leads up to 2,222 metres. Arrived at Laufböden, the winter hikers enjoy a mountain panorama of a special kind: the view reaches from the striking Churfirsten at Walensee over the Rhine Valley to Lake Constance; Grisons and Glarus Alps.

The circular rout leads between Laufböden and Pizol hut to the plateau, which is forming a natural platform. Behind the Glarus thrust is located, which has been included into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Here it is clearly visible, how the rock strata have been ridging and folding during the formation of the Alps. A chairlift leads back to Pardiel.

The way leads without significant inclines through the barren landscape far beyond the timber line. Past frozen mountain lakes the Pizol hut is reached, which is offering to linger for a while on the sun terrace, before the way back is started.

Hi Nadja - thanks for the great tip about this winter hike! How stable/easy to walk is the path in winter? Are normal hiking boots sufficient or does the path in winter require snowshoes?
