This panoramic route passes high above the Walensee with a frontal view of the striking Churfisten range, which is of geological interest. Along the way, cosy mountain restaurants («Bergbeizli») and alpine foothill scenery with grandiose views await the cyclist.
This bike-tour starts and finishes in Flumserberg Tannenbodenalp. The first section of the route follows a wide, gently rising unsurfaced road to Seebenalp. This plateau with three mountain lakes has an atmosphere of idyll and unequalled natural beauty. There is a traditional hotel/restaurant directly by the lake with a large sunny patio.
A slightly steeper climb takes you through a blossoming landscape to Maschgenkamm, the highest point of the route. Your efforts are rewarded with spectacular panoramas of the Walensee and the striking Churfirsten. These are a natural monument of national importance and are also unusual in terms of their geology:as a result of a thrust fault, older layers of stone are located above newer ones.
On the other side of the mountain, views open up over the Schilstal and the Spitzmeilen. The descent that follows is made up of two sections. Awkward and bumpy down to Alp Panüöl, and then comfortable and relaxing past the Prodalp back towards the Tannenbodenalp.
Note(s)
If you want a longer hike, you can start at the station in Flums and cycle via Fäsch (side road) to Flumserberg Tannenbodenalp.
Optional descent to Flums: Beneath Prodalp (before you cross the Gondola lift) follow the «Heidiland Trail» signs over Cafrida, Bergheim into Schilstal up to Portels, and then to Flums.
You can get to Flumserberg Tannenbodenalp with the Gondola lift from Unterterzen station (incl. bike transport).
