Explore the rugged rock surfaces along the Pizol 5-Lake Hike!
Around the Gaffia gondola station, there are striking, light-coloured, bumpy and furrowed rock surfaces. The rock, in this case limestone, feels rough as if it had been etched, often forms grooves and is sometimes very sharp. Slightly acidic rain water and melt water dissolves the limestone and forms these karst shapes. The grooves are in line with drainage or fissures, which are more easily removed because they are weak zones.
